Steps to multiply scientific notation:


 

In this, coefficient and exponential parts are solved separately. 


 

  1. First, we need to multiply the coefficients, whether integer or decimal. 
  2. After this, we need to multiply the exponential parts (keeping the base 10 and adding its powers).
  3. Lastly, merge the solution with the multiplication sign and simplify them.

Like multiplication, the division also requires solving coefficient and exponential parts separately. 

  1. First, we need to divide the coefficients, whether integer or decimal. 
  2. Post this, we need to divide the exponential parts (keeping the base 10 and subtracting its powers).
  3. Lastly, merge the solution with the multiplication sign and simplify them.


 

Q. A tailor stitches 3×10⁴ trousers in one day; how many trousers will he stitch in 5×10² days?

Solution: The trousers the tailor can stitch in  5×10² days = 5×10² *  3×10⁴ = 15 x 106
