  •  Length: It is the longest dimension of an object. It displays how long an object is. Usually represented by 'L'.


 

  •  Breadth: It is the shorter dimension of a figure. It shows how broad an object is. It is expressed using 'b'.


 

Here is an example to solve a question on area and perimeter equations. Let's look at the example mentioned below to understand the concept of area and perimeter.


 

Q. The length and breadth of a rectangle boundary is 3 cm and 4 cm. Find the area and perimeter of the boundary.


 

Step 1: Convert the Breadth and Length into the same measurement.

Here,

Length = 3cm

Breadth = 4 cm


 

Step 2: Use the area and perimeter formula based on the shape.

So,


 

Area of rectangle = length * breadth

3 cm * 4cm = 12cm square units.


 

Perimeter of Rectangle = 2 ( length + breadth )

2 ( 3 cm + 4 cm )  = 2 * 7 = 14 cm units.
