7th Grade Math Probability

Probability is the chance of occurrence of an event. It tells us about the likelihood of the occurrence or non-occurrence of an event. Through 7th grade probability, students can understand, there are situations that are certain to happen, some that are impossible, and some that may or may not happen. The situation that may or may not happen has a chance of happening. Those which have no chance of happening have a probability of 0 and those that are bound to happen to have a probability of 1.

Important points of probability

  • Formula of Probability =  outcomes/total number of outcomes.
  • Whenever we're unsure about the outcome of an event, we can talk about the probabilities of certain outcomes - how likely they are.
  • The probabilities in a probability model must sum to 1.
  • The value is expressed from zero to one.
  • Probability has been introduced in Maths to predict how likely events are to happen.
  • The meaning of probability is the extent to which something is likely to happen.
  • This basic probability theory, which is also used in probability distribution, where you will learn the possibility of outcomes for a random experiment.

Probability 7th grade Examples

1.   There are 6 marbles in a box with numbers from 1 to 6 marked on each of them. What is the probability of drawing a marble with the number 2?

Ø  Total number of events = 6

Ø  A favourable event is to get the marble with the number 2 marked on it.

Ø  Number of favourable events = 1

Ø  Probability =  outcomes/total number of outcomes

Ø  Probability = 1/6

2.   There are 6 pillows in a bed, 3 are red, 2 are yellow and 1 is blue. What is the probability of picking a yellow pillow?

Ø  The probability is equal to the number of yellow pillows in the bed divided by the total number of pillows

Ø  Total number of outcomes= 6

Ø  Number of favourable events = 2

Ø  Probability =  outcomes/total number of outcomes

Ø  Probability= 2/6 = 1/3.
